Taijul Islam, Bangladesh’s Tiger

Taijul Islam, being the pride of Bangladesh, honored himself with the Man of the Match award in the test against New Zealand. It was the first ever test victory for Bangladesh against New Zealand. International Career of Taijul Islam

2014

Following his 2013–14 domestic season exploits, he was added to the A team squad for their trip to the West Indies in May 2014. Later on, in August-Sep 2014, he went on tour with the senior team Bangladesh.

Furthermore, two test series saw him join the national team so late. Thus, he took the place of another left-arm spinner, Abdur Razzak. In addition, during his debut at Kingstown’s Arnos Vale Ground, he bowled most of the overs in partnership with Shuvagata Hom. The off-spinner made his test debut. Hence, he took 5/135 in the first inning of the West Indies 484/7.

Consequently, he became the sixth bowler for team Bangladesh who claimed five wickets in his first test match.

Later on, in October-November 2014, he was chosen for the home series against Zimbabwe. At that time, he grabbed eight wickets against 39 runs in the second innings of the test. However, it was his best to date. Since the opposing team lost all its wickets in 114 runs,

It is to be mentioned that he broke Shakib Al Hasan’s record of 7/36 against New Zealand, which he made in 2008. Since he became the first Bangladeshi player to capture eight wickets in the first innings of a test,

Yet only two left-arm bowlers have amassed greater numbers in Test innings: Johnny Briggs from England (8/11). And Rangana Herath from Sri Lanka (9/127). Later on, Taijul Islam struck the winning runs as Bangladesh won by three wickets. Moreover, credit goes to his incredible performance. Thus, he got the Man of the Match award.

It is to be noted that he made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe on December 1, 2014. Moreover, he hit four wickets against 11 runs in seven overs. Thus, it included a hat trick. However, he became the fourth Bangladeshi player to take an ODI hat trick. Prior to him, this credit was only for Shahadat Hossain, Abdur Razzak, and Rubel Hossain.

2015

It is to be discussed that he was added to Bangladesh’s squad for the ODI World Cup 2015. It was played in New Zealand and Australia. Yet he could play only one match. Since he was unable to grab any wickets in New Zealand, Moreover, he was shot with 58. It was not a good performance.

2019

Taijul Islam was added to the T20I team for the 2019–2020 squad in September 2019. for the Tri-Nation Series. However, he made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe on September 13, 2019.

2021-Present

Taijul Islam was added to the Test and ODI squads for the West Indies tour in May 2022. However, he did not play the Test series and the first two ODIs due to his not being part of the regular squad.

However, for the third ODI, he was added to the playing team; it was his comeback since the Zimbabwe tour in March 2020.

However, he proved himself to be a good decision-maker. Since he made a five-wicket haul against 28 runs, However, it was his best bowling performance to date. Further, his classical bowling helped his national team sweep the ODI series by 3-0.

Domestic Career of Taijul Islam

Bangladeshi cricketer Taijul Islam has represented a number of home teams, including Prime Doleshwar SC in the Dhaka Premier Division, the Rajshahi Division and North Zone, and Duronto Rajshahi in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). In three matches, he claimed 14 wickets on his first-class debut for Rajshahi Division in April 2011. He signed a contract to play in the Dhaka Premier Division with Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club in the 2011–12 campaign. 

He competed for Bangladesh’s under-23 team in the Singaporean ACC Emerging Teams Cup in 2013. With 22 wickets from 15 matches during the 2013–14 season, he was among the Dhaka Premier Division’s top wicket-takers. He was included in the Khulna Titans team’s roster in 2018 and was
