ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Sri Lanka Squad

Just like the other teams, the Sri Lanka squad has also been confirmed. It is to be noted that the much anticipated ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is to start on October 5. India will host the event. The squad for Sri Lanka, the first runner-up in the Asia Cup 2023, will be announced here.

The last ODI World Cup in 2019 was held in England. Unfortunately, the Sri Lanka squad was not able to qualify for the quarterfinals of the previous World Cup. Moreover, it is exciting to beat the top teams in this World Cup. Currently, the Sri Lanka squad is ranked 7 in the ICC ODI team ranking.

Moreover, each squad includes 15 members. However, it did contain both active and reserve players. As a result, they are all equipped with batters, bowlers, and all-rounders.

In addition, eleven teams will compete in the World Cup in 2023.The teams included Pakistan, India, England, New Zealand, Australia, Afghanistan, Netherlands, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and South Africa.

Selected Players for Sri Lanka Squad

Selected players are Dasun Shanaka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dushan Hemantha, Maheesh Theekshana, Dunith Wellalage, Kasun Rajitha, Matheesha Pathirana, Lahiru Kumara and Dilshan Madushanka.

Dasun Shanaka

Dasun Shanaka is another product of the fruitful Sinhalese Sports Club. He is a hard-hitting all-rounder who juggles being a bottom order impetus and a decent medium pacer who can swing the ball.

Furthermore, he hit a 34-ball 65 in an ODI against South Africa, a knock that contained four fours and five sixes. He was also selected captain of the T20I leg of the tour to Pakistan .when most of the older players backed out due to security concerns.

On the other hand, he made history by defeating the then-number one team in their own backyard 3-0 with a weaker squad.

Kusal Mendis

Kusal Mendis represents a bright future for Sri Lanka in the post-Sangakkara-Jayawardene era. He rose to fame after winning Schoolboy of the Year in 2013. Hence, in the following season, national selectors appointed him captain of the under-19s for the 2014 World Cup.

Therefore, his first Test appearance came soon after, in a home series against the West Indies. Mendis, on the other hand, demonstrated his class in the Test series against India. Smashing a breathtaking century in the second Test against India.

Which further underlined his class and versatility as a batsman. Sri Lanka is in transition, and they will need players like Mendis. which step up if they are to return to their former glory.

Kusal Perera

He is an outstanding batsman for Sri Lanka. When Sanath Jayasuriya was promoted to the top of the order. Meanwhile, His career took a U-turn, launching soaring beginnings.

Kusal, who began his career as a middle-order batsman. He appears to have borrowed a page from his predecessor’s book. Since 2007, Perera has been a member of the Sri Lankan Under-19 squads. In 2009, he made his debut for the Colts Cricket Club.

Now, having played possibly the best Test innings by a Sri Lankan batsman earlier in the season. Hence, he enters the 2023 World Cup as a senior batsman on whom the relatively inexperienced side will rely heavily for excellent starts.

Pathum Nissanka

Pathum Nissanka, a good right-handed hitter, made his international debut with a Test century. In reality, he made his debuts across all formats in 2021. However, it was against the West Indies that he made his international debut in style. He hit hundreds against Zimbabwe and the West Indies.

A powerful middle-order batter. Charith Asalanka has been a member of Sri Lanka’s limited format setup since 2021. A tidy cricket ball striker. Asalanka made his T20I debut against India, scoring a quick 26-ball 44.Hence, demonstrating to the world what he was capable of.

Kasun Rajitha

Kasun Rajitha was one such celebrity. Prior to 2015, the right arm made a name for himself with statistics of five for 68 in a three-day warm-up game at Khettarama.

Dilshan Madushanka

Dilshan Madushanka made his T20I debut against Afghanistan in Dubai in August 2022. Madushanka, a left-arm pacer with the potential to swing the ball in the power play
