Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill is an Indian international cricketer .who plays for the Indian cricket team in all three formats from 2018. He is the captain of the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League and represents Punjab in domestic cricket. Further, He is largely regarded as one of the best batsman in modern international cricket.

Gill was the vice-captain of the Indian Under-19 cricket team in the 2018. While, Under-19 Cricket World Cup, winning Player of the Tournament. Gill, a right-handed opening batsman, is the youngest cricketer to make a double century in One Day International cricket.

As well as, the greatest T20I score by an individual for India. He is also the fastest player to reach 2000 runs in one-day internationals.

Early Life of Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill was born on 8 Sep, 1999, to a Punjabi Sikh family in Fazilka, Punjab. His father, Lakhwinder Singh, is a farmer. Hence, who dreamed to play cricket. Gill showed early promise in cricket, so his father relocated the family to Mohali, near the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium.

Further, he could train at a higher level. Shubman Gill had a young future in cricket. He made his Under-16 debut for Punjab in the Vijay Merchant Trophy at the age of 14.

Also, scoring a double-century. In 2014, he hit 351 runs in Punjab’s Inter-District Under-16 competition. However, had a record opening partnership of 587 runs with Nirmal Singh for the Indian squad. Hence, He also holds the distinction for the fastest player to score 2,000.

Domestic Career of Shubman Gill

He scored his List A debut for Punjab in the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy against Vidharbha. He made his first-class debut for Punjab in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy on 17 Nov, 2017. Later that month, in another first-class match, he scored his first century for Punjab against Services. Hence, He scored 129 against the Bengal squad.

Furthermore, In August 2019, he was selected India Blue’s captain for the 2019-20 Duleep Trophy. Gill was named captain of India C for the 2019-20 Deodhar Trophy in October of 2019.While, In November 2019, he was named the youngest cricketer to captain a team in the tournament. However, He was 20 years and 57 days old, breaking Virat Kohli’s record of 21 years and 124 days set during the 2009-10 tournament.

Additionally, Glamorgan recruited Gill as an overseas player in September 2022 for the rest of the 2022 County Championship season. Hence, He made his debut at the Sophia ground with Worcestershire.

International career of Shubman Gill

In February 2017, he was member of the Indian U-19. Where he played a significant role in the team’s series win over England U-19. In December 2017, he was chosen India’s vice-captain for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

While, He had a good competition, leading the squad in runs scored with 372 and was awarded player of the tournament. Following India’s performances in the tournament. Hence, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named Gill the squad’s rising star.

Personal life of Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has a twin sister, Shahneel Gill. While, His father, Lakhwinder Singh, built a cricket pitch on their farm for Gill to train on. Also pushed him to compete against local youngsters. Gill got coaching from his school for a while. Moreover, when he was older, his father relocated the family to Mohali .Hence, so he could attend the Punjab Cricket Association academy.
