Shan Masood, the Current Test Skipper of Pakistan 

Ongoing Test Cricket Skipper, Shan Masood

After the debacle of ICC CWC2023, Babar Azam left the Captaincy of Pakistan Cricket team. So, Shan Masood, the left-hand Cricketer of Pakistan team becomes the new Captain for the Pakistan Test Cricket team on November 15,2023. In addition, after the announcement of his position as the Test Captain his Contract was also upgraded before the upcoming Australia test Series.

Introduction of Shan Masood

Shan has been playing for the Pakistan National Cricket Team since 2013. Furthermore, he is the current Captain of Pakistan Test Cricket Team. In addition, he is also captaining the Yorkshire County Cricket Club at domestic level. Besides his role is the opening batsman of the Team.

He was also among the 33 players who were awarded the central contract by PCB for years 2018-19. Moreover, he also captained the Southern Punjab Cricket Team and Multan Sultans. In addition, he was also the member of Pakistan Cricket Team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Early life

Shan was born in Kuwait on October 14,1989. However, due to the invasion of Iraq in Kuwait he along with his family left Kuwait and settled in their native country Pakistan again. Shan belonged to an educated and influential family. In addition, he too studied from Stamford School in Lincolnshire and learned economics from Stamford University in the UK.

 Later he also studied Sports and Management Sciences from Loughborough University. Due to the interest of his father in sports, he urges Shan to join the field of sports. Furthermore, he joined the Pakistan National Cricket Team in 2013. His position in the team is the left-hand opening batsman and occasional medium fast right-arm Bowler.

Cricket Career of Shan Masood

International Career

Earlier in 2013 in the Test format, Shan started by making 75 runs in his Test debut against South Africa. Later he achieved his maiden test Century in July 2015 at Pallekele Stadium against Sri Lanka. Here he put 242 for the 3rd Wicket and Pakistan chased 382 score successfully. In addition, he also does bowl as a part-time bowler. So, he does bowl in Test Cricket against England where his 1st delivery was a no ball. 

During the Test Match against Sri Lanka, Shan made his 2nd test Century at National Stadium and also completed his 1,000-test cricket runs.  However, his 3rd Test Century was completed against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi in 2022.

In the ODI format, Shan was the member of Pakistan Squad for Asia Cup 2018 however he didn’t play. Moreover, he was also part of the squad for the series against South Africa in 2019 where he again didn’t play. Later he made his ODI debut against Australia in March 2019 in the ODI Series.

At the T20Is, Shan began with the debut against England in September 2022. He was also the vice-Captain of the Pakistan team in the ODI series against New Zealand in January 2023.

Domestic Career of Shan Masood

The start of the domestic career of Shan began by playing for Karachi in first-Class in 2007 where he scored 54 runs. Moreover, he also played for Durham University in 3 first- class Games. He served Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s squad as the vice-captain in the Pakistan Cup 2018.

Later for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, he captained Southern Punjab in 2019. In addition, he also captained Bagh Stallions for Kashmir Premier League.

During 2021-22 he played for Derbyshire in County Cricket and scored wonderful double centuries against Sussex and Worcestershire.
