Saxton oval ground

Saxton Oval ground, often known as Saxton Field, is a sports complex in Nelson, New Zealand. Hence, It was established when the Nelson Cricket Association relocated from their old home ground, Trafalgar Park. Moreover, The Association received Lottery Community Facilities Funds permission for $400,000 to develop the cricket, athletics, and football pavilions.

Inaugural International Match

When the stadium was completed, the first match it hosted was a T20 game between Central Districts and Canterbury in 2009. Hence, High-quality and List A matches were held here in the following seasons. The first international game played at this facility was a T20I between New Zealand Women and Australia Women in 2010.

Furthermore, The Nelson Cricket Club spent $3.8 million to build the stadium after moving from Trafalgar Park. The Oval is part of a larger sports complex that also includes facilities for athletics, association football, field hockey, and softball.

Saxton oval is also located in Nelson, New Zealand. Furthermore, it debuted in 2009. However, it has a capacity of around 6000 spectators.

Furthermore, this stadium lacks floodlights. As a result, the pitch is grassy. The two principal ends of this stadium, however, are the town end and the Richmond end.

Inaugural ODI Match

Just one ODI has been hosted at this venue so far, in January 2014, against New Zealand and the West Indies. Therefore, Both teams entered this game with a 1-1 series record. Martin Guptill started the batting charge and was assisted by the rest of the team as New Zealand posted an impressive score of 285 in 50 overs. Hence, The West Indies’ reply was cut short by rain, which interrupted play in the 34th over with the score at 134/5. According to D/L, New Zealand won the game by 58 runs.

While, the 2011 Rugby Union World Cup, the national squads of Italy and Australia utilized the cricket oval as a base. Moreover, Saxton Oval became one of the 2015 Cricket World Cup sites.
