Punjab Cricket Association Stadium also known as The Mohali Stadium. Hence, it is India’s 19th Test cricket venue. The surface is known for being active and supportive of pace bowlers. But it has slowed down and now supports spin bowling as well.

It made its debut on November 22, 1993, as part of the 1993 Hero Cup, with an ODI match between India and South Africa. Furthermore, Geetanshu Kalra designed the stadium, which is home to the Punjab squad. The stadium took approximately 25 crore and three years to build.

The stadium has an official seating capacity of 27,000 people. Ar. Arun Loomba and Associates designed the stadium, which was built by R.S. Construction Company in Chandigarh. Moreover, Punjab cricket team and Punjab Kings play at Mohali Stadium.

Punjab Cricket Association Stadium History

The PCA Stadium in Mohali, Punjab, is a well-known cricket venue. The stadium is commonly referred to as the Inderjit Singh Bindra Stadium or the Mohali Stadium. As a result, it is named after former BCCI and PCA head Inderjit Singh Bindra. The PCA Stadium, which first opened its doors in 1993, features world-class practice facilities. It also boasts a spectator-friendly layout and excellent media facilities.

Moreover, it is the home venue of the Indian cricket team, the Punjab cricket team, and the Punjab-based Indian T20 League club. The surface at Mohali Stadium has earned the title of being the most energetic in the country throughout the 1990s and 2000s. However, in recent years, it has become more bat-friendly.

Pitch Parameters

The pitch was lightning fast when India played the West Indies in a Test match in 1994. The Windies used it to their advantage, defeating India by 243 runs. Even when Australia faced the Caribbean side in the 1996 World Cup. The pitch provided good carry and bounce for the pacers.

However, it has now slowed and has proven to be an excellent batting wicket. In the history of the IPL, scores of over 180 have been chased down at the ground.

In 1993, India and South Africa played their first (ODI) at the Punjab Cricket Association Cricket Stadium. The hosts, led by the captain Mohammad Azharuddin, won by 43 runs. Since then, it has held more than 25 One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

Further, the stadium hosts the ICC World Cup semi-final match between Australia and the West Indies in 1996.Hence, in a nail-biter, Australia beat the West Indies by five runs. It also hosted three ICC World Cup 2011 matches.
