Phil Salt is a right-handed Wicket-Keeper batsman of the England Cricket Team from 2021. Furthermore, he is an aggressive batsman who also bowls off-spin sometimes. Early Life

Philip Dean Salt was born in Bodelwyddan, Wales, United Kingdom on August 28,1996. His father’s name is Chris Salt. Phil got 2 siblings, a brother named Sam Salt and a sister: Dani Salt. He got his early education from a school in Chester. Because of his fondness for cricket, he started playing at an early age. At St Asaph, he began to play Cricket till age 10. After he was 10 years old, his family migrated to Barbados. Furthermore, at under -11, he also played for Northeast Wales. 

As he fulfills all the residency requirements of Barbados, he became eligible to play Cricket either for England or West Indies Cricket Team. Hence, residing in Barbados, Phil played cricket with a mate of England and a future player of Sussex, Jofra Archer. However, before he turned 16, he moved back to the UK. He got a cricket scholarship and hence took his high school education from Reed’s School.

Phil is still unmarried. Moreover, he keeps his personal life Private. However, he has a girlfriend Abi McLaven whom he is dating from 2020.

Domestic Career

At domestic level of cricket, Phil started by playing for Guildford Cricket Club in 2013. Later in 2014 he was signed by the Sussex Academy. Apart from the Sussex Cricket League 2014, he also played 2nd XI matches and matches for Brighton and Hove. Salt scored a total of 200*/129 against Horsham, 147* against Preston Nomads & 51/33 against Roffey in the Sussex Premier league. Furthermore, he got the man of the month award in August 2014.

He played for Sussex in 2015 too. Whereas he was also playing for Brighton and Hove in that time. Furthermore, he was the 29th different player of Sussex in Royal London One Day Cup 2015.

He got his official junior level contract in 2016. So, he debuted in T20 for Sussex against Gloucestershire on May 20,2016 in the NatWest T20 blast 2016. Later in the same year his first-class debut was made during the England tour of Pakistan. Furthermore, Phil also played in big bash League season 2029-20 as part of Adelaide Strikers squad.

Later he missed the County Championship 2021 due to the foot injury. However, he played the season 2022 as part of Lancashire CCC leaving Sussex. In addition, he was drafted by Manchester Originals for The Hundred 2022 season.

PSL Career

In Pakistan Super League, Salt had played for Lahore Qalandars in 2018 season of PSL. whereas, for the 2019-21 seasons of PSL he was signed by Islamabad United. However, in 2022 he was again drafted by Lahore Qalandars for the PSL 2022.

IPL Career

At the Indian Premier League, he was drafted by Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2023 for £200,000. However, he wasn’t signed by any of the 10 franchises in the IPL auction 2024. So, he remained unsold for the IPL 2024.

BPL Career

It is confirmed from the sources that in the Bangladesh Premier League season 2024, Phil Salt is drafted by the franchise Chattogram Challengers.

International Career of Phil Salt

2019

At first, Phil was named in the T20I squad of England as a replacement for injured Dawid Malan against Pakistan in May 2019. However, he didn’t play that match.

2021

Phil was selected in the ODI squad England Cricket Team for a series against Pakistan in 2021. Later he debuted in ODIs on July 8,2021 against Pakistan. In the same year in December, he was named in the T20I of England for a T20I series against West Indies.

2022

Furthermore, he made his T20I debut against the West Indies on January 26,2022. Whereas he scored his first ODI century against Netherlands in June 2022 with 122 runs. In that match, he was among the 3 centurions along with Dawid Malan and Jos Butler with England scoring highest ODI score of 498 runs.

ICC T20 CWC 2022

Phil was the squad member of the England Cricket Team who won the ICC T20I CWC 2022. Furthermore, he played both in the semi-finals and final of the tournament.

2023

Phil’s name was also among the squad for England tour of West Indies 2023-24. During this tour, in the 3rd T20I of the series he scored his 1st T20I century and became the 5th batsman of England to do so. Furthermore, he scored another century on the 4th T20I too. He became the first batsman of England to score 119 runs in a T20 Match. In addition, he also was the first England batsman to hit 2 consecutive T20I centuries. Whereas he is the 8th England Batsman with highest Strike rate of 165.97.
