Pakistan and Afghanistan team were competing in the Match 22 of ICC Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup 2023. Furthermore, the match was hosted by MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

Moreover, the toss was won by team Pakistan, and they decided to bat first.

After a thrilling game, Afghanistan defeated Pakistan by 8 Wickets and 6 balls left. Moreover, it was a rare moment for Team Afghanistan to achieve a remarkable victory. Furthermore, the Man of the Match was Ibrahim Zadran for his wonderful 87 runs on 113 balls.

First Innings, Pakistan VS Afghanistan

Pakistan on 282 runs on the loss of 7 Wickets in 50 Overs

Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq

Imam and Abdullah Shafique started the beginning of the 1st Innings as the Opening batsman from team Pakistan. Whereas Naveen-Ul-Haq was the bowler here. Moreover, by going slow on the first 5 balls, Imam hit a 4 on the 6th ball. Thus, the match started flowing steadily with runs coming from the openers.

In addition, Abdullah also hit four 4s and 2 brilliant boundary 6s until the 10th over. Furthermore, Imam also hit a 4 again. Hence, the score for the Pakistan team was 56/0 at 10 overs. However, Imam’s wicket was dismissed by Azmatullah on the 1st ball of the 10th over at his 17/22 runs.

Abdullah Shafique and Babar Azam (C)

Babar Azam, the Captain of the Pakistan team was the next top order Batsman. In addition, he started his innings with a classic 4 on the first ball he got. Moreover, the match proceeded again with the runs increasing for the scoreboard of team Pakistan.  At this stage Babar and Abdullah both played very wisely with good runs. However, Abdullah did not hit any boundary, Whereas Babar hit two more excellent 4s during the 11th to 22nd over.

At 20th over, the scores for Pakistan team were 100/1. Later Abdullah hit a 4 during the 21st over and his wicket was dismissed by Noor Ahmad on the 3rd ball of the 22nd over at his 58/75 runs.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan

After the loss of 2nd wicket, Rizwan was the next player from team Pakistan. In addition, Rizwan hit a beautiful 6 during the 23rd over. But unfortunately, he was out on the ball of Noor Ahmad during the 24th over at his 8/10 runs.

Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel

Saud Shakeel was the next player to join Babar Azam on the crease. However, after the wicket dismissal of Rizwan, the Match somewhat turned slow for runs. As no 4s and 6s were hit by both players until the 30th over. So, the total score of Pakistan was 139/3 at the 30th over. Babar was also playing slowly during these overs.

After the 31th over, Saud threw three 4s within the distance of an over. Later, he was dropped out by M Nabi at the last ball of the 33rd over at his 25/34 runs.

Babar Azam and Shadab Khan

Saud went and Shadab Khan came as the next Batsman.  The game began again with the flow of scores for team Pakistan. Both Players were playing carefully to avoid any more wicket loss. At 40 overs, the score for Pakistan team was 191/4.

However, the crowd cheered at the start of the 41th over on the pleasant 6 by Babar and turned silent again after his wicket dismissal in the last ball of the same over. Moreover, Babar’s wicket was dismissed by Noor Ahmad at his 74/92 runs.

Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmad 

At this stage, 5 wickets were down for the Pakistan team with total 206 runs in 42 overs. Iftikhar Ahmed was the next batsman.  After 2 overs, Iftikhar threw two sizzling 6s during the 44th and 45th over. In addition, Shadab hit a 6 during the 46th over too. After that a sensational 4 also came by Shadab Khan followed by a 4 by Iftikhar too.

 Later, Iftikhar hit back-to-back 4 and 6 once again during the 47th over. After a one more 6 from Iftikhar, His wicket was lost on the ball of Naveen Ul Haq during the 49th over with his 40/27 runs.

Shadab Khan and Shaheen Shah Afridi

Shaheen Shah was the next and the last player from team Pakistan. Hereafter, the 3 more balls, Shadab’s wicket was dismissed by Naveen at the last ball of 49th over with his 40/38 runs.

Hence, Shaheen Shah remained not out with 3/3 runs as the 50 overs were completed for team Pakistan here.

2nd Innings, Pakistan VS Afghanistan

Afghanistan on 286 runs on the loss of 2 Wickets in 49 overs

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran

At the start of 2nd innings, Ibrahim and Rahmanullah were the opening batsmen from team Afghanistan. Whereas Shaheen Shah was the Bowler from Pakistan team. Moreover, Gurbaz threw a fantastic 4 on the start of the innings. Later on, the 5th ball, Ibrahim also hit a crunchy 4 making a total of 10 runs in just 1 over.

Total score was 28/0 in the 5 overs for Afghanistan including the two more 4s of Zadran. After the 5 overs, the Sizzling display of batting and partnership was witnessed by the spectators. In addition, more runs and 4s were made by both openers making a total of 60/0 runs for Afghanistan at 10 overs.

During 10th to 15th over, a good number of scores including 5 to 6 4s too, were added in the score board of Afghanistan team by the openers. At the 2nd last ball of the 14th over, half century of Ibrahim Zadran was completed. Whereas Gurbaz completed his half century during the 15th over. However, the first boundary 6 of 2nd innings was scored by Gurbaz on the ball by Iftikhar Ahmed during the 19th over. So, At 20 overs, the score of Afghanistan was 128/0.

Later, Shaheen Shah dismissed Gurbaz’s Wicket on the first ball of the 21st over at his 65/53 runs.

Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat Shah

The 1st wicket of Afghanistan was lost and the next batman to come on the crease was Rahmat Shah. However, the game again went steady from here as Rahmat and Ibrahin both played fantastically. In addition, 2 more 4s were hitted by Rahmat and the score was 175/1 for AFG at 30 overs.

Later, at the 3rd ball of the 33rd over, Hasan Ali dismissed the wicket of Ibrahim Zadran at his 87/113 runs.

Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi (C)

Hashmatullah Shahidi was the next batsman to join Rahmat Shah on the crease. On the other hand, Rahmat’s performance was magnificent with wise and beautiful play. Hasmatullah hits his 1st 4 during 36th over, following him Rahmat too hitted a 4. Later, Rahmat threw a sizzling 6 at the 37th over. At the completion of 40 overs, the score was 221/2 for the Afghanistan team.

As the team was getting closer to the ending overs, it was also going towards the victory of the Afghanistan team too. At the 2nd ball of the 40th over, Rahmat also completed his half century.

More and more runs were made by the players having many 4s and a 6 too.

Later the target score was chased by the Afghanistan team at the last ball of the 48th over and that too with a 4 from Hashmatullah.

And just like this Afghanistan team won this match against Pakistan with 8 Wickets remaining
