Netherlands Squad, ICC World Cup 2023

The Netherlands qualified for the ICC World Cup in 2023. Moreover, it is to be noted that they never qualified through the group stages. They had participated in the World Cup in previous years but never reached the quarterfinals. Although it even did not qualify for the World Cup in 2019,

The Netherlands will play their first ODI match for the World Cup 2023 on October 6 against Pakistan, the top ODI team.

Scott Andrew Edwards is the captain of the Netherlands. Moreover, he was born on August 23, 1996.  He started his international career in 2018. The 27-year-old player is not only the right-hand batter but also the wicketkeeper. However, Edwards has played multiple ODI’s, T20I’s, and domestic cricket. Furthermore he played his debut ODI against Nepal at Amstelveen in 2018. However his last ODI was against Sri Lanka at Harare in 2023.

Maxwell Patrick O’Dowd is the right-hand batter and opening batsman for the Netherlands. He was born on March 4, 1994, in Auckland. However, an interesting fact about him is that he is the son of AP O’Dowd, a former cricket player. Moreover, the 29-year-old opening batter can do a right-arm off break ball too.

Paul van Meekeren

Paul Adriaan van Meekeren is the Netherlands’ best bowler. He was born in January 1993 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The player bowls fast medium right-arm and bats right-handed. Additionally, he made his debut against South Africa in May 2013. Amstelveen hosted this match. But he played his last match in 2023, also against South Africa. Johannesburg hosted the event. 

He has affiliations to several clubs. He began with the under-13 Dutch team. He had, however, played for the Winnipeg Hawks, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Khulna Tigers, and Dambulla Aura. Other than these, he has ties to the Dutch under-15, under-19, and national team.

Following the 2016 World Twenty20 qualifying matches, he attracted notice. He was given a short-term contract by Somerset, which was then extended to a two-year contract. Additionally, he played his List-A, T20, and Somerset debuts against Pakistan. He had four wickets against Essex in his first game.

Roelof van der Merwe

Roelof van der Merwe is a left-arm spinner and hard hitter for the Netherlands national team. However, he was born in December 1984. He is probably the most experienced player on the team. He was born in Johannesburg, Transvaal. Moreover, Roelof is also known as Roela or Bulldog.

His batting style is right-handed. However, his bowling is slow left-arm Orthodox. Thus, he is an all-rounder. It is to be noted that he represented two countries in cricket. While he made his domestic debut in 2006 for the Northerners,Yet he gained popularity with the Titans in the 2007–08 era. He played 26 matches for South Africa soon after he retired from there. Sybrand Engelbrecht

Sybrand Abraham Engelbrecht, a gifted all-rounder, was born in September 1988. He used to do right-hand batting and right-arm off-break. Unfortunately, he had difficulty incorporating his fielding abilities into his professional life. Engelbrecht, although he made a spectacular catch at the 2008 Under-19 World Cup.
