Early Career of Mohammad Rizwan

Rizwan was born on 1992 in Peshawar. He has six siblings.  Rizwan is the youngest of three brothers. Hence, He began his cricketing journey with tape ball before moving on to clubs such as Islamia College and then the Shama Club.

Rizwan’s results in the shortest format have been unimpressive to say the least, despite his flair. However, with age plainly on his side, Rizwan’s career is far from over. The fact that Pakistan’s captain is a wicket-keeper batsman may work against the young Peshawar kid.

Domestic Career

During his debut in first-class cricket with Peshawar in 2008-09. Rizwan smashed five 50s, four of which were undefeated, in his first seven innings. Rizwan scored 224 runs for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd in the final of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in 2014-15. Moreover, helping Sui Northern to a 301-run first-innings lead and their second title. Hence, In December 2014, he kept wicket for Pakistan A in five limited-overs matches against Kenya.

International Career of Mohammad Rizwan

In April 2015, Rizwan completed his One Day International (ODI) debut for Pakistan against Bangladesh. He hit 67 runs off 58 balls. He got his Twenty20 International debut for Pakistan in the same series.  Furthermore, On November 25, 2016, he made his debut in a Test for Pakistan against New Zealand.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) gave him one of 33 central contracts for the 2018-19 season in August 2018. Also, He led Pakistan to victory in the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Pakistan advanced to the semi-finals. Hence, Rizwan got his first ODI century in March 2019, hitting 115 runs in the second ODI against Australia.

Test Century

Rizwan achieved his first Test century in February 2021, during Pakistan’s series against South Africa. As he was named the series’ best player. Further, Rizwan earned his first T20I century in Pakistan’s series versus South Africa in February 2021.

He scored 104 points, including six boundaries and seven sixes. However, He also became Pakistan’s first wicket-keeper batter to hit a century in T20I cricket. Indeed, After Brendon McCullum, he is the second wicketkeeper batsman to score hundreds in all three versions of international cricket.

He became only the second Pakistani hitter, after Ahmed Shehzad, to make a century in T20I cricket. He also became his fifth specified wicketkeeper hitter to score a century in T20Is. 

Third T20I

During the third T20I between Pakistan and South Africa in April 2021, he and Babar Azam shared a 197-run opening-wicket partnership. Indeed, this is also the highest partnership for Pakistan for any wicket in T20I cricket

Also, He was picked to Pakistan’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in September 2021. Rizwan became the first hitter in Twenty20 cricket history to score 2,000 runs in a calendar year in December 2021.

Hence, Rizwan and Babar set a T20 cricket record of 203 runs without being removed in September 2022.
