Early and Personal Life of Kane Williamson

Kane was born at Tauranga, New Zealand on August 8,1990. Actually, he belonged to a family who had a background in sports previously. His mother’s name was Sandra who was a representative of Basketball players. Whereas his father Brett had played in under-17 cricket as well as club cricket in New Zealand. Furthermore, his grandmother Joan Williamson Orr was the previous mayor of Taupo. Kane has a twin brother Logan and 3 elder sisters named Anna, Kylie and Sophie. Furthermore, all of his 3 sisters were players of the Volleyball team of New Zealand.

So, the interest of Kane in cricket and sports is inherited. Kane got educated from Tauranga Boys College 2004-08. During his college years, he was trained by Pacey Depina. At an early age of 14 years, he started playing senior representative cricket. Later after two years he started to play first-class cricket. The cricket class of Kane was seen from his early years as he scored approximately 40 centuries during his school life.

An interesting fact of Kane’s life is that he bats and bowl from right hand; however, he does his writing left-handedly. He met his wife Sarah Raheem in 2015 and later got married. During the Army Public School Peshawar Massacre in 2014, he donated his entire match fees of the ODI series between New Zealand vs Pakistan 2014.

Domestic Career of Kane Williamson

The domestic Career of Kane was started back in 2007 when he first played for Northern Districts. Since then, he has been a permanent squad member of Northern Districts until now. Later, during the Champions League T20 2014, he scored his 1st T20 century also for Northerns with 101*/49 and made his team win against the Cape Cobras. Along with the Northern Districts he also played for Gloucestershire and Yorkshire for English Country Seasons starting from 2011. In 2017 he also played as a part of the squad for Barbados Tridents.

In the Indian Premier League, he started from 2015 by playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2016 where his team won the IPL title. Later in 2018 he also captained the Sunrisers Hyderabad and his team ended up as the runners up of IPL. Sunrisers Hyderabad retained him till the 2022 edition of IPL as captain of the team. In the IPL 2023 he was picked up by Gujarat Titans however, he got injured in the first match and left the season.

Kane Williamson’s International Career

At the international level, Kane started playing for the New Zealand team at the age of 17 years. In 2008, he captained the New Zealand under-19 team in the ICC World cup 2008. Later in 2010, he was selected as the squad member of New Zealand national team for the Test Match against Australia however he didn’t play. He debuted in ODI cricket in August 2010 for a match against India. However, his first ODI century was against Bangladesh in October 2010. After the ODI series against Bangladesh, he was selected in the Test squad for the New Zealand tour of India. Later he debuted in Test Cricket against India in November 2010. During his 1st innings he made 131/299 and scored a century.

Captaincy of the New Zealand team

Kane acquired the position of the Captain of the New Zealand team across all the formats of cricket in 2016. As a captain, he led his team for the first time in the ICC T20I Cricket World cup 2016. His team ended as runners up in the ICC Cricket World cup 2019 and he was titled as the Player of the Tournament and a highest scoring captain in a World cup.

At that tournament he completed 578 runs in a no. Of 10 matches. At the ICC WORLD test Championship 2021, under his captaincy New Zealand defeated India by 8 wickets in the final and won the Test Championship. Later in the ICC men’s T20 World Cup 2021, his team defeated England in the semi-finals. Despite his 85/48, the New Zealand team ended up losing in the finals. However, he was the top scorer of his team in that tournament with 216 runs.

During a Test series against Pakistan, Kane stepped down from Test Captaincy in December 2022. Later he scored his 5th double Test Century of Tests in the 1st Test against Pakistan. He scored his 18th Test Century of Test Cricket in March 2023.

He also captained the New Zealand team in some matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
