Match 31st out of 45 Matches of ICC Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 was held on October 31, 2023. Furthermore, this match was between the teams of 2 Asian neighboring Countries Pakistan and Bangladesh. Whereas the venue for this Match was Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium, Kolkata.

After a splendid performance by both the Bowlers and Batsman of the team, Pakistan attained a marvelous Victory against Bangladesh. Moreover, Fakhar Zaman acquired the Man of the Match award in this Match with his fantastic 81/74 runs.

Earlier during the starting matches of Pakistan in CWC2023, Fakhar’s position was down as he was unable to perform like before. So, in a few matches Imam-Ul-Haq replaced Fakhar. However, as the team Pakistan lost 4 matches in a row, Fakhar again got a chance to play during the 31st Match of CWC2023. Finally in this match Fakhar made a fantastic comeback and played fabulously resulting in the glorious victory for Pakistan Squad.

Early Life

Fakhar was born on April 10, 1990, at Mardan KPK, Pakistan. Later due to his studies, he was shifted to Karachi at the age of 16 years. At the start, he joined the Pakistan Navy as his Career. However, later he pursued cricket as his career also due to the passion of his father for Cricket. Fakhar is also pronounced Fauji among his fellows as his nickname. 

Fakhar played in the International Defence Cricket Challenge as a member of the Navy in Australia in 2012. Here, he attained the award of tournament’s best Player. However, he joined the Pakistan International Cricket team in 2017.  At such a young age in 2020, Fakhar also got the honorary rank of Lieutenant by the Navy due to his contribution in the Cricket.

Domestic Career 

At domestic level, Fakhar started by joining Pakistan Navy’s Cricket team and played in various Matches. Firstly, his abilities as a top-notch batsman was recognized by his coach of the Navy team Azam Khan. Due to the encouragement by his coach, Fakhar left the Navy in 2013 and played in different regional domestic teams including Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and various other Karachi teams. 

Later, his capabilities were recognized by Selectors during the 2016/17 Season of Quaid e Azam Trophy. As he was the 2nd highest run scorer at that time.

He was also selected to play in the 1st Season of the T20 Global League for Durban Qalandars which was canceled later. Moreover, for the 2022/23 season of the Bangladesh Premier League he played for Khulna Tigers.

PSL Career

Fakhar’s PSL career started in 2017 where he was selected by the Lahore Qalandars and trained under the guidance of Brendon McCullum. Although his team was defeated in the first few seasons, his overall performance was excellent individually. 

Later in the 2022 season of Pakistan Super League, due to his efforts Lahore Qalandars won the 1st PSL title. Moreover in 2023 he was the 2nd player to complete a score of 2000 runs.

International Career

The international Career of Fakhar was started by joining Pakistan National Cricket Team in 2017. At first, he played in the limited over Squad and after that his T20I debut against West Indies too. 

Whereas his talent was showcased during the final match of the ICC ODI Champions Trophy 2017 which was between India and Pakistan. Pakistan achieved a glorious victory in that match later and Fakhar got the Player of the match award for his 114/106 runs. Here Fakhar made his maiden ODI century and became the first batsman of Pakistan to score a century in the final of ICC Event.

Until now Fakhar had played in various international events and made various records too. In 2018, he played against Australia in a Test Series and helped Pakistan to win the Series and himself became man of the Series and final too.

In addition, he became the first Pakistani Batsman to score a double Century in ODIs and remained not out with 210 runs. It happened in 2018, against Zimbabwe.
