International Information

Wellalage began his international career in June 2022. He played his debut ODI against Australia at Pallekele Stadium in June 2022. While he was at the beginning of his career, he played 13 ODI matches. He made 187 runs and took 18 wickets. His most eye-catching performance was his match in the Asia Cup against India. He took a 5-wicket haul there. Before that, he could make such big halts in domestic cricket or under-19. Yet for international cricket, it happened for the first time in his career.

Thus, he played only one test match in international cricket. That is against Pakistan at Galle in July 2022.

Domestic Career

Wellalage started his career in List A cricket in December 2019. Due to an invitation from the Lankan Cricket Club for a limited overs tournament.

Furthermore, he became the captain of the Sri Lankan team in the ICC Under-19 World Cup,held in the West Indies. Thus, he took a five-wicket haul in the opening fixture of the tournament. Since he began as the man of the match. Again in the next fixture, he became the man of the match due to his five-wicket haul. Thus, he scored 113 runs against South Africa in the semi-final, and the team won by 65 runs.

Additionally, he became the first captain to score a century in the Under-19 ODI World Cup. Thus, ending the tournament as the leading wicket-taker by dismissing seventeen.

In fact, SLC added him to Sri Lanka’s Emerging Team squad on their tour to England. Hence, he made his T20 debut against Surrey on his tour of England. In addition, his astonishing performance helped him become part of the Sri Lanka A team. So he played against the Australian A team. Furthermore, he played for Jaffna Kings in the Lanka Premier League.
