David Willey: The Shining Bowler of England

David Willey astonished the spectators with his glowing performance. Moreover, the bowler, with his spectacular bowling. The 44th match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 was played between England and Pakistan.

However, it is to be noted that David is the son of former player and umpire Peter Willey. Yet he was part of the English team when they won the T20 World Cup in 2022. However, he retired in November 2023.

International Career of David Willey

In May 2015, Willey played his debut ODI for England. Thus, he took a wicket too, yet the rain disturbed the play. Moreover, later on, he played against Pakistan and New Zealand in a series of ODIs. Hence, he grabbed two wickets for Pakistan against 89 runs. Yet he grabbed three wickets for New Zealand against 69 runs.

Moreover, in the T20I’s he played against Australia, he played smoothly and got 2-32 and 3-51. Consequently, England won by three wickets.

Furthermore, in the series against South Africa in 2015-16, he played three matches yet grabbed a wicket against 30 runs in the first match. Moreover, he could not grab a wicket in the other two matches.

Nevertheless, he played in the T20I campaign in 2016, yet played every match. Thus, he grabbed 1-30 against the West Indies. However, against South Africa, he made 1–40. Moreover, his performance against Afghanistan helped his team win.

Later in 2017, he played against the West Indies and India. Yet he scored 10 and grabbed 2 wickets against 47 runs. Hence, the match ended with the loss to England. Still, he earned a prominent edge through his performance. However, England lost the second ODI too. Yet won the last one. Even though he was injured, he still grabbed one against eight runs.

Later on in the Tri Series of 2018, he scored three runs in the second T20I. Yet he took 3 wickets against 28 runs, the same again, thus 1 wicket against 30 runs. Moreover, he scored 21 runs in the next match, yet he could not grab a wicket. Still, England triumphed over New Zealand in the final.

Willey played several matches of the ICC ODI World Cup 2019. Moreover, his spectacular performances included a five-wicket haul.

Moreover, another interesting fact about David is that he has already announced his retirement after the World Cup. So this was his last international ODI.

Domestic Career of David Willey

David began his domestic career at Northamptonshire County Club. Yet he scored 60 runs on his debut. Moreover, he got a two-year contract from the club. Thus, he proved himself eligible for the contract with his victory in the T20 final.

However, he made his debut in 2016 for Yorkshire. Moreover, he has played for the Perth Scorchers, Chennai Super Kings, and Northern Superchargers.
