Daryl Mitchell is a New Zealand cricketer who represent Canterbury in domestic cricket .Also plays for the New Zealand national side in all formats. He is the son of former player and New Zealand rugby union coach John Mitchell. It didn’t take long for the Northern Districts player to create an impression.

Early years of Daryl Mitchell

He was 20 years old and still in the process of completing his bachelor’s degree in sports and physical science. Therefore, when he arrived at Northern Districts in 2012.He is said to have spent five of his formative years in Perth, Australia.

And he even shared the field with notable Australian cricketers, like Andrew Tye, Marcus Harris, and Marcus Stoinis. Particularly, through the school and grade ranks in Western Australia.

Further, Daryl Mitchell, Marcus Stoinis, and Justin Langer were teammates in the WACA change rooms in March 2009. Also, celebrating Scarborough’s first-grade premiership. Mitchell represented Western Australia at the Under 19 and Under 23 levels.

Hence, the Australian Centre of Excellence in a Futures League T20 competition. During his 3 years with Hale in school cricket and 2 years with Scarborough in club cricket.

Following his outstanding performance in Australian third grade level events. Northern Districts gave him a contract. Which he gratefully accepted, and has since become a fixture on the New Zealand domestic circuit.

Northern Districts signed him to a contract for the 2018-19 season in June 2018. Mitchell will relocate from the Northern Districts to Canterbury in June 2020. Also, he earned his maiden five-wicket haul in first-class cricket against Otago in November 2020. Also in the fourth round of the 2020-21 Plunket Shield season.

Further, Mitchell was awarded his first central contract by New Zealand Cricket in May 2021, ahead of the 2021-22 season. That same month, he was signed by Middlesex for the remainder of the 2021 t20 Blast.

Hence, he was purchased by the Rajasthan Royals in February 2022. Lancashire stated in January 2023 that Mitchell would play for the county. Moreover, both the County Championship and the T20 Blast in the 2022-23 season.

International career opportunities

He was picked to New Zealand’s Twenty20 International (T20I) team for their series against India in January 2019.Hence, On February 6, 2019, he made his New Zealand T20I debut against India. He was named to New Zealand’s Test team for the second Test versus England in November 2019.

Additionally, On November 29, 2019, he made his New Zealand Test debut against England. Mitchell earned his first Test century, an unbroken 102 runs. In the 2nd Test with Pakistan in January 2021. Mitchell was picked to New Zealand’s One Day International (ODI) team for their series against Bangladesh in March 2021.

Furthermore, He made his ODI debut for New Zealand against Bangladesh on March 20, 2021. Mitchell hit his first ODI century on March 26, 2021, in the third match of the series vs Bangladesh.

He was included to New Zealand’s 15-man squad for the 50-over World Cup in India in September 2023.

Rugby

From 2018 to 2020, he was also an assistant strength and conditioning coach for Waikato Rugby. Hence, He also played rugby at the high school level during the off season, particularly during the winter.

During the 2021 ICC Awards, he was named the winner of the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award 2021. Moreover, for his decision not to run for a single after realizing .He had obstructed English bowler Adil Rashid’s path.
