Bangladesh vs. Sri Lanka Asia cup 2023 Match 2 highlights

Now we talk about the second match of Asia Cup which was played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and in which Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by five wickets. This is very pathetic for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh team could barely score 164 runs in 42.4 overs and their entire team was out.

It was a very ambitious target for the Sri Lankan team to win which they achieved in 39 overs for the loss of five wickets with 66 balls to spare.

Sri Lanka’s bowling attack put a damper on Bangladesh’s batting as they couldn’t do anything against their bowling attack.

The Bangladesh captain had won the toss and elected to bat, believing that he would set a good target for Sri Lanka but failed to do so and his decision backfired.

The team easily won because they were pursuing a meager 165-run target. After Matheesha Pathirana picked up four wickets, Charith Asalanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama each scored fifty runs to ensure that the game would not be upset.

First innings Highlights

A pathetic start by Bangladesh Batting their opener couple early bowled and they could not set a huge target for Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka team and fans were very happy on this easy target. Because they believe in themselves that this target will be easily chased.

Taking three wickets in the opening 10 overs of the game, including skipper Shakib Al Hasan, Sri Lanka established a firm grip on the situation. Later, the situation was maintained by Tawhid Hridoy and Najmul Hossain Shanto before the latter fell with the stand at 59 off 80.

While Bangladesh continues to lose wickets at the other end, Shanto has been solid. After the 40th was over, the wheels started to go off, and Shanto himself was out on 89 runs off 122 balls. The final score for Bangladesh was 164.

Rain was expected for the day, and Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka stated he had taken that into account when making plans. A very little pause occurred, but other than that, the clouds hadn’t appeared yet.

Second innings Highlights

Bangladesh suffered a five-wicket loss to Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh put in a brilliant performance in their chase of 164 and dismissed the Sri Lankan opener early. At the start of the 10th over, Sri Lanka had lost three wickets for 43 runs. When Shakib-ul-Hasan dismissed Mendis, the game took an interesting turn here and it felt like Bangladesh were back in the  game again.

Then Sadeera  gave a very good support to the Sri Lankan team who scored 54 runs off 77 balls and also crossed the 100 runs of the Sri Lankan team.

In 31 overs, Sri Lanka had scored 128 runs for the loss of four wickets when Shakib Al Hasan bowled De Silva. At that time it was felt as if the Bangladesh team would win the match but then the fifth wicket partnership forced them to face a humiliating defeat.

At the other end, Shanaka has 14 off 21 and Asalanka has 62 off 92 to finish unbeaten. It only took Sri Lanka one and a half effective partnerships to complete the task, and they were successful. To score 78 runs off 119 balls for the fourth wicket, Samarawickrama and Asalanka worked together. While Asalanka and Shanaka’s partnership continues unbroken on 37 off 48 balls, it finishes without a wicket.

Asalanka is eager to complete this right away. After reaching 158/5. Sri Lanka only needs seven more runs to win the match.  Although Bangladesh did an excellent job of protecting a very low score, in the end, it was a simple target that Sri Lankans performed easily.

50 performances by Asalanka

The importance of his 50 for his side is at least as great as that of Sadeera’s, if not greater, as it has taken 85 balls.

In 39 overs opposite  Bangladesh in Pallekele, Sri Lanka successfully chased down a meagre score of 165 runs. Matheesha Pathirana’s 4-wicket haul (4 for 32runs) helped the hosts bowl Bangladesh out for 164 runs earlier. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 89 runs off 122 balls, but the visitors still had a low total. Shakib, the captain of Bangladesh, chose to bat first after winning the toss.

So, Sri Lanka celebrated their victory in the very first match they had won against Bangladesh and Matheesha Pathirana’s was declared man of the match.
